proving its utility in reactive oxygen species (ROS) mediated diseases. The invitro antioxidant potential of Karisalai
Karpa Choornam was screened by DPPH scavenging assay, Superoxide anion scavenging activity assay, reducing
power activity assay, metal chelation, and total antioxidant assay. The results of the present study showed that the
ethanolic extract of KKC exhibited marked antioxidant activity. The antioxidant potential of KKC may be due to the
presence of active phytochemical constituents such as phenolics and flavonoids. The antioxidant potential was found
to be concentration dependent and may be attributed to the presence of bioactive compounds in the KKC. The results
of the present study concluded that the extract is a source of natural antioxidants which might be helpful in preventing
the oxidative stress mediated diseases and aging.
<Email>karthikpharmawing@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>5</volume><issue>2</issue><year>2015</year><keyword>Karisalai Karpa Choornam,Reactive oxygen species,Antioxidant,DPPH, Superoxide anion,Metal chelation</keyword><AUTHORS>Karthikeyan Muthusamy,V.Gopal 2</AUTHORS><afflication>Faculty of Pharmacy, PRIST University, Thanjavur-614904, Tamilnadu, India,College of Pharmacy, Mother Theresa Post Graduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences (A Govt. of Puducherry institution), Pudhucherry-605006, India</afflication></Article></Articles>
